Aerospace Science and Earth Informatics & X Double Major Programme
Approved by the Senate of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), CUHK and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen(CUHK-Shenzhen) have jointly launched three Collaborative Double Major Programmes(CDMP) over the 2023–2025 academic years: “Interdisciplinary Data Analytics & X”, “Aerospace Science and Earth Informatics & X”, and “Materials Science and Engineering & X”. These programmes adopt an innovative “Two Campuses & Double Major” model, establishing a new paradigm for talent development.
The two campuses admit students respectively into the CDMPs. During the four-year programme, students attend classes and participate in learning and research activities at both the Hong Kong campus and the Shenzhen campus, fulfilling the course requirements of both majors. A bachelor’s degree of CUHK will be awarded with two majors printed on the degree certificate.
Guided by the University's strategic vision, the CDMPs provide students with an interdisciplinary and cross-campus platform. By integrating the high-quality resources from both campuses with the strategic advantages of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, CDMPs empower students to expand global perspectives and diversify academic and career pathways.
The Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Science and Earth Informatics offers a comprehensive programme that aims to unravel the mysteries of outer space and our own planet. This highly interdisciplinary undergraduate major combines the realms of aerospace science and Earth informatics, equipping students to harness the power of data and invent innovative solutions to explore outer space and to safeguard our planet Earth.
Aerospace science encompasses the scientific exploration, development and application of technologies to study and navigate within and beyond the Earth’s atmosphere. Earth informatics combines knowledge of Earth sciences and skills of geospatial data science to understand and monitor the Earth’s environments and changes. Integrated within a coherent, interdisciplinary programme, students are able to gain an in-depth understanding of the intricate interplay between space exploration and the Earth’s environment, acquiring expertise in satellite and aerospace technologies, remote sensing, geoinformatics and geospatial data analysis, machine learning, atmospheric and space physics, environmental and climate change monitoring and modeling.
The programme is ideally suited for students interested in pursuing a career in leading national organizations and multi-national enterprises committed to developing markets in GBA or Mainland China.
Both universities are supervised by the same Senate, sharing the same academic structure and curriculum design. Graduates of CUHK(SZ) are awarded degrees of CUHK, the same as those awarded to CUHK graduates.
