Q: What kind of students are suitable for the Interdisciplinary Data Analytics & X Double Major Programme (IDA)?

A:

● Students passionate about business, eager to explore how to use big data and AI to solve complex business challenges, and committed to becoming well-rounded management professionals and business leaders.

● Students interested in computer engineering or financial engineering, aiming to apply mathematical and statistical modeling and informatics skills to solve complex engineering problems in related fields and pursue careers as expert engineers.

● Students with a strong interest in basic sciences, particularly mathematics and algorithm research, dedicated to advancing scientific innovation.

Q: What kind of students are suitable for the Materials Science and Engineering & X Double Major Programme (MASE)?

A:

● Students passionate about materials science and engineering and related disciplines, eager to explore knowledge in these fields.

● Students eager to master materials science and engineering—a highly interdisciplinary discipline—and interested in physics, chemistry, biology, energy, environmental science, and electronics.

● Students willing to embrace new environments, adapt to rapid changes, and thrive in diverse urban and cultural settings across campuses.

 

 

Q: What is the admission quota for the Double Major Programmes?

A:

Each programme jointly admits 40–50 students annually across both CUHK and CUHK-Shenzhen campuses (20–25 students each campus). CUHK admits students via the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) and other general channels, CUHK-Shenzhen follows mainland undergraduate admission guidelines to admit top-tier students for the double major undergraduate programme.

 

Q: Are there quota limits for individual majors within the Double Major Programmes?

A:

No, there are no quota limits for individual majors.

 

 

Q: When they finish the programme, will graduates get bachelor’s degrees from both campuses?

A:

If a student meets the requirements for a bachelor’s degree, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) will award them a degree certificate. This certificate will be for their first major at CUHK-Shenzhen, and both majors will be clearly listed on it.

What’s more, students who fulfill the graduation requirements of their major within the prescribed period and meet the criteria for diploma issuance will be awarded a "Diploma of Regular Institutions of Higher Education" by CUHK-Shenzhen. This diploma will show their first major.

 

 

Q: Do students need to pay tuition fees for both campuses?

A:

CUHK-Shenzhen admitted students only pay CUHK-Shenzhen tuition fees and enjoy full access to facilities and benefits at both campuses.

 

 

Q: Does the University provide on-campus accommodation during the study period?

A:

Students are guaranteed on-campus accommodation at both campuses during their studies. Accommodation fees are charged according to each campus’s standards:

CUHK: Approximately HKD 15,000 per academic year (depending on the college).

 

 

Q: Can students switch majors after enrollment?

A:

Yes, but switching majors may disrupt academic progress and potentially extend graduation time. Students are advised to carefully consider this decision.

 

 

Q: Can students withdraw from the Double Major Programme? What is the process?

A:

Yes. Students wishing to withdraw may submit a request to transfer out to the programme office.

 

 

Q: What is The Co-operative Education Programme (Co-op@CUHK) ?

A:

Co-op@CUHK is an academically accredited programme designed for motivated students. Participants undertake paid full-time work at partner enterprises, allowing them to gain valuable industry experience while acquiring professional knowledge, developing soft skills, and building industry insights.

 

 

Q: Will participating in Co-op@CUHK delay graduation?

A:

Participants will undertake full-time, paid internship work during the summer of Year 3 and the first semester of Year 4 (approximately May to December of that year). With proper planning, students can complete all required credits and graduate within the standard 4-year study period. The University will assist students in formulating an appropriate study plan.

 

 

Q: Can students join colleges and participate in college activities?

A:

Yes. During their studies at both campuses, students are assigned to a college at each campus and have full access to facilities (dorms, dining halls, etc.) as well as the opportunity to participate in college events.
